How we built SimpStay — and what shipping AI taught us.
01 · The problem
Short-stay hosts answer the same fifty questions every check-in.
Wi-Fi password. How does the AC work. Where's the nearest 7-Eleven. Most hosts answer those questions ten times a week, in three time zones, on no sleep.
02 · Our approach
Don't build a chatbot. Build a guidebook the bot reads from.
We built a structured guidebook the host edits in plain language, then layered an agent that retrieves from it — the property, the neighbourhood, the guest's actual reservation. The agent doesn't guess. It quotes the host.
03 · What we shipped
Authoring tool, RAG layer, guest chat, eval loop.
Web app for the host to compose and publish. Retrieval over the guidebook plus reservation context. A guest-facing chat that opens from the booking link. An eval suite the host can run before publishing — every change tested against fifty stock questions.
04 · What we learned
AI products live or die in the boring layer.
The retrieval logic, the eval cadence, the human escape hatch — that's where the work is. The model swaps out every six months. The product is everything around it.

A note from the founder
Bytemotion is one engineer's bet that small senior teams using AI well ship better software than big teams using it badly.
I started Bytemotion in 2020 as a solo engineer. Six years and six clients later, the bet is paying off — AI in our toolchain means a hand-picked crew can ship what used to take a much bigger team.
I'm intentionally selective on client load. Right now I'm building one NDA e-commerce platform and working part-time as an AI Workflow Engineer at an AI startup in Bangkok. That's it — by design. I'd rather do two things well than six things badly.

What's the actual shape of Bytemotion?
A small senior studio out of Bangkok, founded by Rathakit in 2020. The founder plus a trusted bench of senior collaborators — mobile, backend, AI, infra — we've worked with for years. Brought in by project, never on rotation. We're intentionally selective on capacity.
Are you a software shop or an AI shop?
Both — equal weight. We've shipped six production projects since 2020 (mostly software for state enterprise and SMEs). In 2024 we launched our first AI-native product, SimpStay. Today AI is in our toolchain on every project, and it's a deliverable on the AI-native ones — like SimpStay and the NDA e-commerce build.
Who actually does the work?
The founder plus a trusted bench of senior engineers — mobile, backend, AI, infra — we've worked with for years. No juniors-on-rotation. No body shop. If you hire us, you talk to the people writing the code.
Why are you faster?
Two reasons. One, AI is in our toolchain — copilots and custom agents handle scaffolding, tests, migrations, drafts. Two, the team is senior. Senior engineers + AI assistance ship work that used to take a much bigger team.
